Handgun Licensing Application Process

1. A records check must be processed on any individual applying for a handgun permit.

Information needed for a records check:

Full Name of Applicant
Applicant's Date of Birth
Applicant's Social Security Number
Applicant's Driver's License Number(Large number following DLN on top part of Driver's License)

The records check will take approximately 24-48 hours for the Sheriff's Office to get a reply from the state. Once the records check is back from the state the Sheriff will need to sign off on the records check and Handgun License Application.
The applicant will then need to come to the Sheriff's Office to apply. To alleviate costly time and travel, it is recommended that the applicant call the Sheriff's Office prior to coming in to verify that the paperwork has been signed.

2. When you come in to apply, the cost are as follows:

3. Once the application is completed, the applicant will be instructed on which paperwork needs to be forwarded to the State with a money order or certified check made payable to the State of Indiana, in the amount listed above. (An envelope, addressed to the State, will be furnished.)

4. The State will then forward the license to the applicant. (This will take anywhere from 2-6 weeks.)
